Things to do around Bedford Hills, New York

Playgrounds, nature trails, museums, food and other things to do.

Westmoreland Sanctuary
260 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Mt Kisco, NY 10549 | website trailmap
A not-for-profit, independent nature center and wildlife preserve, established in 1957. A 7-mile trail system with some steep hills, and a few bridges over streams. The Nature Center— with live animals, educational exhibits, and two public restrooms — was reconstructed from a 200-year-old church that originally stood in Bedford Village, NY (it was built in the 1800s and moved to its current location in 1973). Right next door to the sanctuary, and accessible from the sanctuary is the Zar burial ground; Dates on the headstones range from 1824 to 1915. We took our 2021 Boxing day walk here.

Trevor Zoo
282 Millbrook School Rd, Millbrook, NY 12545 | website

A beautiful zoo with 80 exotic and indigenous species in exhibits across six acres. We saw Lemurs, red pandas, kinkajou, cranes, many beautiful owls, wallabies, emu, rhea and also salamaders, snakes, and fish. The Trevor Zoo is the only zoo in the US located on a high school campus. There they also care for nine endangered species. Established in 1936 by biology teacher Frank Trevor, it was his mission to share his love of wildlife with all who visit. Groups require reservations. The Trevor Zoo is open to the public every day of the year including all holidays. Make a reservation online. Worth the trip.
